Course Description: The higher learning of students intending to specialize in the fields of human health sciences can be best served when provided with basic concepts on the comparative anatomy of vertebrates. By gaining knowledge of function and the development of the physical features, from tissues to organ system, which humankind shares with other members in the vertebrate taxon, students gain a more holistic understanding of the underlying physiological and evolutionary processes behind structural components of the human body. In addition, the laboratory dissection studies with a vertebrate model can aid students in acquiring practical skills for the identification and physical handling of the organ system components. Thus, this course can ultimately contribute to a greater range of biological approaches for conducting related studies on human health maintenance and therapy.
