Master of Social and Administrative Pharmacy

The Master of Science in Social and Administrative Pharmacy (MS SAP) is an outcomes-based graduate program designed to develop pharmacist leaders, researchers, and policy analysts. It integrates management, economics, epidemiology, and social sciences to address challenges in pharmacy and healthcare delivery systems. Students gain expertise in policy analysis, health technology assessment, and outcomes evaluation to improve patient care. The program prepares graduates for multidisciplinary roles in governmental, industrial, and academic settings, focusing on socio-behavioral factors in medication use to optimize population health outcomes.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of the program, Master of Science in Social and Administrative Pharmacy graduates must be able to:

  1. manage health care system resources using health technology assessment, communication, and information technology skills to promote the safe and rational use of medicines and ensure organizational operational efficiency;
  2. formulate policies for the improvement of the pharmaceutical system and overall health care system in the Philippines and other settings;
  3. apply social science, economic, and management research, in the development of an organized and efficient pharmaceutical system and health care system;
  4. disseminate evidence-based information through effective means of communication in scientific and professional practice settings;
  5. exemplify the highest ethical and professional standards in any academic undertakings and in practice; and
  6. manage a pharmaceutical organization by exhibiting good human relation, creativity, high sense of social responsibility, and transformative leadership skill.

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for the MS in Social and Administrative Pharmacy are the following: (Admission requirements not included in the NGOHS guidelines are underlined.)

  1. GWA of 2.0 or better for non-UP graduate; GWA of 2.5 or better for UP graduate
  2. Must pass the written assessment and admission interview by the UP College of Pharmacy to determine the aptitude and attitude of the students towards the profession, the university rules and regulations, and the degree program of the college.
  3. Take and pass the required bridge courses if necessary: Pharm 138: Health Technology Assessment and Pharmaceutical Policy (BS Pharmacy)
  4. A duly accomplished Application Form to be submitted to the NGOHS together with the following documents:
    1. Certified true copy of College Diploma with seal of the university and the signature of the Registrar in ink
    2. Photocopy of birth certificate (present original for verification)
    3. Photocopy of marriage certificate for female married applicants (present original for verification) if submitted above documents reflect name when still on single status
    4. Four (4) passport size photos
    5. Two (2) accomplished recommendation forms (UPM- NGOHS Form A3) from referees (former professor, supervisors, or colleagues sent directly to NGOHS)
    6. Official receipt of the application/processing fee paid at the UP Manila Cash Division
    7. Health and dental clearance from the University Health Service
  5. For foreign applicants, additional requirements include:
    1. Certified true copy of the English translation of the diploma with the seal of the university and the signature of the Registrar in ink;
    2. Certificate that English is the medium of instruction in the university where the student graduated from; if English is not the medium of instruction in the country of origin, a Valid TOEFL (or its equivalent) score of at least:
      1. 550 (paper-based); 173 (computer-based); 70 (internet-based) or
      2. other Certification of English proficiency equivalent to TOEFL requirement (e.g., IELTS band 6)
      3. Affidavit of support or certification of financial capability
      4. Photocopy of passport (present original for verification), Alien certificate of residence for resident alien

*NGOHS shall accept and perform the initial screening of the submitted documents then forward to the College for the screening and admission interview.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from the program, students must be able to meet the following requirements:

  1. Completion of 160 hours of Advanced pharmacy practice experience in Social and Administrative Pharmacy with project proposal presentation (3 units)
  2. Completion of all coursework and thesis, including the thesis defense, with a GWA of 2.0 or better
  3. The student must have presented original research in a university graduate colloquium.
  4. Prospective graduates are required to submit six (6) bound copies of the master’s thesis.
  5. Original copies of duly accomplished UPM-NGOHS Form No. 3 (Completion/Approval Sheet) and UPM-NGOHS Form No. 4 (Certificate of Acceptance) shall be included in each bound copy.
  6. Proof of submission of the thesis/article in publishable format in a reputable peer-reviewed journal.
  7. Settlement of deficiencies and clearing of records shall be no later than five (5) weeks before the end of the semester.
  8. Filing of a formal application for graduation with the respective colleges during the prescribed period
