Master of Rehabilitation Science Speech Pathology

Master in Speech-Language Pathology is a post-professional degree designed for speech-language pathologists intending to engage in more specialized practice. It offers focused opportunities for building advanced knowledge, gaining experience, and generating new knowledge in a particular area of practice (e.g., language, speech sound, voice, augmentative and alternative communication, auditory habilitation and rehabilitation, swallowing). The program hopes to produce ethical, reflective, evidence-based, collaborative, and client-centered graduates with advanced knowledge and skills that can be readily applied to clinical, research, administrative, and program development roles.

Program Learning Outcomes

The Master in Speech-Language Pathology program aims to develop graduates who:

  1. manage complex or uncommon cases of communication and/or swallowing limitations within a specialized area of speech-language pathology practice;
  2. integrate multiple sources of evidence with clinical expertise and client preferences to make client-level or program-level decisions;
  3. lead in developing and implementing specialized programs that respond to the health, education, and/or economic needs of the community;
  4. collaborate with multiple stakeholders using partnership models appropriate for a shared vision in an area of speech-language pathology practice; and
  5. uphold ethics, professionalism, and lifelong learning in all facets of practice.

Admission Requirements

In addition to the general requirements of the UPM NGOHS, an applicant for the MSLP program should:

  1. Have a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology degree recognized by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education or its equivalent in their country of origin;
  2. Successfully pass an entrance interview; and
  3. Be a registered SLP practitioner recognized by the Professional Regulation Commission or its counterpart in their country of origin.

Graduation Requirements

To become eligible for graduation, an MSLP student must have:

  1. Completed 30 units of course work, with at least 3 units of capstone or practice-based project;
  2. Finished a capstone project; and
  3. Passed the comprehensive examination.
