====== Institute of Clinical Epidemiology ====== The Board approved the creation of an Institute of Clinical Epidemiology as a component of the National Institutes of Health in UP Manila.\\ \\ The mission of the Institute is to promote expertise and develop leadership in the conduct of research in health care, formulation, and adoption of policy and implementation of training programs in clinical epidemiology.\\ \\ The objectives of the Institute are:\\ - To generate research results that will be used in promoting health and in diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating patients - To optimize the use of research results in decision-making at the individual patient and program levels - To produce health service providers who are well-versed in quantitative and qualitative assessment principles drawn from clinical epidemiology, clinical economics, biostatistics, and health social sciences The Institute has the following functions:\\ \\ 1. undertake relevant research for the improvement of health care * do research on clinical practice and population-based medicine * develop novel research methodology or adapt existing methodology to fit available resources and the cultural context of a developing country 2. undertake policy evaluation and other integrative studies on critical issues facing clinicians and other health providers * undertake relevant policy research * Unordered List Itemliaise with legislative and executive officials and other major stakeholders in health 3. provide training and materials on clinical epidemiology and policy development * produce training materials on clinical epidemiology and policy development * conduct workshops and short courses on clinical epidemiology and policy development * advocate the incorporation of clinical epidemiology in undergraduate and clinical post-graduate (residency and fellowship) education * advocate the adoption of evidence-based medicine among health practitioners * assist in the teaching and administration of the M.S. The development requires rigorous and systematic processes which starts from guideline question synthesis, evidence gathering appraisal and interpretation, consensus recommendation and implementation. As such, it needs a group of individuals adept and skilled in the process of CPG development. These series of workshops aimed to capacitate such individuals and therefore, increase the pool of experts who will be able to create quality CPGs in the future using the GRADE methodology. The mission of the Institute is to undertake innovative and cutting edge health policy and development research to inform Philippine health policy formulation/development and the various managerial systems with vital and timely information. It is moreover an innovative unit which will influence the training of research professionals and others to participate in effective health policy and related research. While the institute commits itself to contribute to the development of professional health policy analysis and research, it further seeks to actively influence the process of policy development. This is accomplished by facilitating an informed and active discourse between policy stakeholders so that a strengthened competition of ideas in democratic policy-making is enhanced. It also seeks to improve management capabilities in organization and programs/projects. |
