=== Message from the Director ===

Information and its proper dissemination are key in promulgating UP Manila’s various duties and tasks. As the primary link between the University and its stakeholders, the Information, Publication, and Public Affairs Office (IPPAO) remains steadfast in its mission of promoting and enhancing UP Manila’s image among its constituents and the outside public.\\

Beyond active communication, IPPAO serves as the custodian of the University’s legacy. We are dedicated to tracking, collecting, and collating the chronicles of UP Manila’s history, activities, and important events, ensuring these records are kept in preservable forms for future generations. To support the intellectual and cultural life of the University, our office provides technical assistance for institutional publications, as well as technical support for symposia, webinars, and other forms of public discussion. These efforts ensure that our academic and cultural milestones reach a broad and diverse audience.\\

Furthermore, IPPAO serves as a vital bridge to the community at large. We spearhead public information initiatives to highlight UP Manila’s national contributions to both the media and government. Through a clear and consistent institutional voice, we reinforce our commitment to transparency, excellence, and our enduring service to the Filipino people.\\

=== History ===

The office was known as the Information and Publication Office from 1986 (when it was created) to 1988 (during the reorganization of UP Manila). It later expanded in terms of goals and functions and was renamed Information, Publication, and Public Affairs Office (IPPAO)  in recognition of the vast and expansive role of information and communication in the growth and development of the university. The expansion was part of the 1988 reorganization of UP Manila that redefined the organizational and structural set up in the top academic and administrative offices of the university for greater effectiveness and efficiency.\\

Projecting the programs, projects, and services of UP Manila to build a positive image for the institution among both its internal and external publics entails a wide range of activities.  Over the years, IPPAO has remained true to this vision through the preparation and publication of different printed and online information materials, dissemination of news on events and other matters pertaining to the functions and operations of the university, keeping track of its storied history and heritage and liaising with groups including the government, media, and other partners and stakeholders for its public relations activities.\\

1. Information Section\\
  * This section is responsible for documenting, writing, and publishing official news, feature stories, and updates about the University of the Philippines Manila. It highlights academic achievements, research outputs, public service initiatives, and other University milestones, ensuring accurate and timely communication to internal and external stakeholders. It also emphasizes UP Manila’s contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), showcasing the University’s impact on health, education, and community development.
2. Publication Section\\
  * This section handles the production, editing, and design of printed and digital publications of UP Manila, which include newsletters, annual reports, brochures, and other materials that showcase the University’s programs, research, and accomplishments in a visually engaging and reader-friendly format.
3. Public Affairs Section\\
  * This section manages media relations, press releases, social media, multimedia content, and strategic communications to promote UP Manila’s image and initiatives. It  coordinates with journalists, partners, and external organizations to ensure that the University’s voice is effectively represented on public platforms and in the wider community.
4. Administrative Section\\
  * This section provides operational and logistical support to IPPAO, including records management, office coordination, staff assistance, requesting International Standard Book Numbers (ISBN) from the National Library of the Philippines, and the administration of the UP Manila website.\\
